Angela Kenny came into the studio tonight to talk about Operation Christmas Child, known to everyone as the shoe box appeal. She volunteers for the collecting centre in Ongar. This organisation is world wide. She told us that last year just short of one million shoe boxes were sent from just the UK to children in thirteen countries who otherwise would have had no presents at Christmas. More information is available at www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk
Angela brought in a beautifully wrapped box with items, each with a fact about the project.
In the second hour I was joined on the phone by historian Robert Fletcher who talked about the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Anglo European School in Ingatestone. Robert had been a pupil at the school that was potentially going to close before it was decided to open a school with a European flavour. This reveloutionary idea included needing to design a curriculum from scratch. We also talked about the opening of the Sanctuary, converted from the potting shed, to be a place of contemplation in the busy school and opened as part of the celebrations.
Our music mix tonight reflected the 1970s theme and was much appreciated by the listeners who e-mailed the show. Tonight from the States we heard from Sue, Lauren, Jimbo and Karen, as well as from listeners locally and across the UK.
