Good Friday Night Extra 3.4.15 with guests Carol & Ian Moore

For Good Friday I was joined in the studio by Carol and Ian Moore. Carol is involved with Chelmsford Prison as a volunteer Chaplain. She told us how she initially visited prisoners who never had any visitors. When there are Chapel services, around 50 prisoners attend, though sometimes it is just to have time out of the cells. Along with Ian, Carol runs an accredited course on ‘Loss’. This could be related to bereavement, loss of freedom or anything that the prisoner wishes to focus upon. She also told us that many of the prisoners re-offend as they become trapped in a life-style that leads to criminal activity. Ian talked about Pilgrim’s Hall, where he is Chair of the trustees. He told us about their courses, counselling opportunities and also about the tea shop and bookshop. More info on www.pilgrimshall.org.uk
They both talked about today being Good Friday and why the sacrifice of Jesus is seen as good by Christians. Ian said that it is the basis of the Christian faith.

In the second hour we looked at some odd news stories. This included a tortoise that had a shell made to slip over it’s damaged shell. The new shell was produced by a 3D printer. We also learnt that the name Gary is heading towards extinction as only 28 British babies were registered with the name in 2013. This is odd when you think there are some high profile celebrities with the name. There was also a cat that had been locked in a container for 17 days and had travelled from Alexandria in Egypt to Herefordshire.
