Live session to remember from George Harrison tribute quartet

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We’re getting more and more live music back on the airwaves and last week it was the turn of local band The George Harrison Project.

The George Harrison Project is a live music celebration showcasing George Harrison’s best-loved hits from his early Beatles songs, his solo career and, of course, The Travelling Wilburys.

The band comprises Gary Kenton on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and ukulele; Allan Gifford on drums; Al Jenkins on lead guitar and ukulele; and Dave Shalloe on bass. Dave has a long standing association with promoting music in Essex – he’s the producer of our long-running Creative Sessions series.

In a great session we heard six songs performed live plus a couple of their studio recordings. Bob – who’s been on air with us since 2011 – said that it was one of the best live sessions he’s ever presented on Phoenix FM.

Their next performance is at Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday (28 May) so you’ve got a chance to catch them live if you missed them.
