One 2 Three Friday 22.9.23 with Janet Hewett & June Murray from Chelmsford Rough Sleeper Support Team.

with Janet Hewett & June Murraycfrom Chelmsford Rough Sleeper Support Team.
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Every Wednesday evening 6.30 – 7.45 in the layby in front of Chelmsford library Janet and June as part of three voluntary groups offering help to rough sleepers and vulnerable people. The Rough Sleeper Support Team from Chelmsford Community Church have food available. They also have Grace Breakfast Bags and Hygiene Bags. Warm Hearts for Cold Hands have much-needed clothes, tents, sleeping bags, shoes etc. Streetfood, run by John Wealleans, provides home cooked meals from his catering van. They also provide a listening ear and can guide people to appropriate help. Janet and June both felt that in many ways this was the most important part of the evening because the people who come to the layby might not be speaking with anyone else. At the end of the evening any surplus food is delivered to Sanctus on Thursday mornings. They said that up to forty people have come seeking help on the Wednesday evenings. Clearly they both found being involved personally rewarding and would encourage others to participate in this or similar activities in helping others.  They emphasised that volunteers, as well as donations, are essential to this undertaking that is clearly needed in Chelmsford.
