Curveballs 26th April 2023 (with Stern John and Stackfest’s James & Joe)

First up tonight I was joined by Joe Blamey and James Clarke, two of the organisers of this weekend’s Stackfest event, taking place over 2 days at the Haystack Pub in Canvey Island. Stackfest is Canvey’s largest live music event, and now in its fifth annual outing, features 30 acts over 2 days and while entry is free, donations are welcome to the event’s chosen charity, Music For All. James and Joe will both be seen on stage at various times throughout the weekend, including as members of The Ends – a band we first welcomed on the show 10 years ago, and in celebration of that milestone, I played ‘Coke Can’, the very first Ends track to be featured on the show. Listen back below for some memories of that track and plenty more great acts to appear at Stackfest on April 29th & 30th – visit stackfest.net for the full line-up.

Next up was Anglo-Irish punk trio Stern John (l-r Craig, Paul Morgan). Having started as a solo project and grown into a band, the trio have recently been popping up on the live circuit following the release of their single ‘Hopeless Case’ (released in support of Crisis) earlier this year. We heard their second single ‘Vultures’ tonight which is scheduled for release around May/June, alongside a track in session as a taste of what to expect from their upcoming live shows, including Leigh Folk Festival in June with more to be announced. Check out their Facebook & Instagram page for the latest updates.
