A cunning man and a high born gentlewoman from the Ingatestone Hall Tudor Festival, 14th & 15th of May,, joined me in the studio. Matthew Daws and Lady Eleanor (Paul Dawson and Hilary Taylor) are members of https://companyeofmerriefolk.worpress.com/about-us. They told us the group are always looking for new members. This year they have twenty one bookings for re-enactments, including a mixture of time periods. Group members only have to commit to attend two. The Tudor Fayre at Ingatestone Hall is an annual event, with grounds opening between 11am – 5pm and the house from midday. Normal admission prices apply. Set in 1536, Lady Eleanor is one of three mysterious women who have appeared at the hall. Visitors have to try and discover their identities. There will be other Tudor characters in attendance, including Ned the archer, Diccon the Barber surgeon and Julianna and Yaffle. Many stalls and amusements will be spread around the garden. Hilary and Matthew described their costumes. Hilary said that if all the jewels and gold she was wearing were real, then the cost of her outfit would have been equivalent to buying a Tudor manor house. Playing a very poor man, Paul was dressed simply, apart from his codpiece.

We also heard from Chris Ford from Little Adventures Nursery in Upminster. Member of staff are all taking part on the 21st of May in the Brentwood Race For Life, a 10k run held at Weald Park. They all feel that raising money for Cancer Research is very important and a humbling experience. At the time of the interview, they had raised £900, and hoping to raise considerably more. Earth, Wind & Fire – Fantasy. Phil Bailey is best known as one of the lead singers with EW&F as well as for his duet with Phil Collins. Guesses of his age ranged from 58-80 years. Chris in Guildford was closest with age 76 years. Phil is 71 years old.

Housemartins – Happy hour. Chris & Bob in Harlow, Paul and Hilary in the studio, Chris in Guildford and Stewart, our Drive presenter, all knew Paul Heaton was 60 years old. This was because it had been in the news that to celebrated his birthday, Paul had left money behind the bar for free drinks for customers at certain pubs during Happy Hour on his birthday.
Chris in Guildford was astonished to be the winner.
