Ben works for Community Agents Essex. This is an innovative new partnership supporting older people and their informal carers. Ben gave potted history of this initiative. He explained their services were free, all having been paid for through our local taxes. He emphasised the practical nature of the work, such as fitting a system to open an existing garage door remotely. This enabled the resident to once again use his mobility scooter. The agents have organised the Blue Flower Café at Brentwood Theatre, for those with dementia and their carers. The aim of the agents are also to promote health and independence, reduce social isolation, increasing individual and community resilience. We had lots so e-mail tonight, including Patrick being the only person to recognise both of the original artists for two tracks we played. John and Isabella were listening in the car. Rene packing for a holiday. Phyl after watching EastEnders, Lee working in the office and Sue and Lauren listening in North Carolina whist tacking a break in a shopping trip for Sue’s birthday.
Tonight’s playlist
Booker T & MGs – Crazy
Pilot – January – chosen by Ben
Mike and the Mechanics – Living years – chosen by Ben
Black – Wonderful life – chosen by Ben
Joe Brown – That’s what love will do – requested by Patrick
Jim Reeves – Moonlight and roses – requested by Phyl
Ed Sheeran – Galway girl – requested by Isabella
Quincey Jones – Soul Bossa Nova
Marvin Gaye – I heard it through the grapevine
Foundations – Baby now that I have found you – remembering Clem Curtis, lead singer on this track, who died this week.
The Beat – Can’t get used to loosing you – identified by Patrick as originally by Andy Williams
A 1000 different ways – Lisa Harman – our exclusive track tonight was for Lisa’s Mum Ellen and Dad Tony as they are the inspiration for this song of gratitude.
Beach Boys – Good vibrations – this was Jonty’s classic choice tonight. He told us that the original recording, in today’s money, cost £500,000! After the initial shock, we wondered how many times over it had covered the cost?
Blood Sweat & Tears – Spinning wheel – what a great track!
Vera Lynn – A Nightingale sang in Berkley Square.
Dave Stewart and Colin Blunstone – What becomes of the broken hearted? Patrick knew the original was by Jimmy Ruffin
Everley Brothers – Dream, dream, dream – for Sue and Lauren listening on the phone in North Carolina having a drink sitting in the sunshine having just finished a birthday lunch. Sue, along with Leonard, saw the Everleys play live.
Bill Hayley & the Comets – Shake, rattle and roll
Frank Sinatra – That’s life.
Shakatak – Dark is the night – for Rene, who is a big fan.
Mezzoforte – Rockall
