It was good to welcome back Song Cycle, who last visited the show two years ago. Since 1996 they have been involved with the Friends of Essex Churches Ride and Stride sponsored cycle event. As members of St. Thomas of Canterbury choir they thought as well as riding, they would sing when they arrived at the churches. Over 20 years they have ridden 687 miles, visited 663 churches, sung 316 motets and raided over £36,000 for the trust. To mark their twentieth year, they thought of doing something different. So starting at 7.30 a.m. tomorrow morning, and anticipating singing for over eleven hours, they plan to sing all 150 Psalms, including Glorias, to Anglican chant. We heard three examples of their singing tonight. They can be supported through the Song Cycle JustGiving page. As of 23rd of September thy had raised over £4,000.
The music tonight developed an unexpected theme after I played Justin Mead’s version of The Power of Love. Jonty then asked for a completely different song but with the same title by Huey Lewis and the News. Rene then e-mailed for Jennifer Rush singing another song, but with the same title. Finally Chris e-mailed for the Frankie Goes to Hollywood original. The show had a life of its own!
Jonty brought us some unusual news stories. 78 year old former England rugby player John Ranson foiled an attempted robbery at his home in Malta with a mug of tea. He slammed the door on one robber, threw the hot tea in the face of the second and targeted the third with the mug. They ran off. In Japan a man was forced to tweet for help when he got locked in a department store after falling asleep on a massage chair. His original tweet, “Oh man, I’m locked in” which included a photo has been re-tweeted over 39,000 times.
