Annabelle Chuchett, age 16, Ed Loveday, aged 16 and Duncan Lee, aged 17, all from Ingatestone, joined me tonight to talk about their skydiving to raise money for the Chelmsford based charity, Kids Inspire. They dived on Wednesday with the Red Devils, the British Army’s Parachute Regiment at Sarum. They clearly had a fantastic time and talked enthusiastically about the experience. Once they had all landed, they said, “Can we go back and do it again?” They were full of praise for the Red Devils and the way that they helped them, and others also undertaking skydives on the day. Only today there was news of two ninety year old World War Two veterans undertaking dives. Any charity can look with confidence to organise skydiving with the Red Devils.
Kids Inspire is a charity that has an every increasing call upon the expertise of those working with children and young people who need their help. The charity aims to help to heal wounds and trauma and help young people to reconnect with themselves and society. www.kidsinspire.org.uk The work is both in the community and in schools. The founder of the charity Sue Bell came in to talk on the show and the full recording can be found by scrolling down the Friday Night Extra show blogs. Annabelle, Ed and Duncan can still be supported. Go to UK.Virgin money giving.com/team/Duncan Ed and Annabelles Sky Dive and donate.
In news stories we heard that the first Apple computer, prototype Apple 1, sold today for $815,000 (£618,000)Just 200 of these computers were built by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976. 10% of the proceeds from the sale in New York will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Winning bidders Glenn and Shannon Dellimore say they will take the computer into schools and universities to help inspire young people. Russian languague students world wide are being offered the opportunity to chat on Skype with pensioners in Moscow with a scheme called Liguanalink of Generations. So far fifteen international students have applied online. In Shanghai there are moves to remove English names from some road signs, so that the Chinese characters can be bigger and seen easier by Chinese reading drivers. This has caused anguish amongst the ex-pat community.
