Being my final show before Christmas I thought it might be interesting to report on the findings of a survey which suggest that astonishingly more than half of mothers-in-law in the UK will not only not receive a gift from their son or daughter’s partner, but will actually be lucky to get so much as a season’s greeting!
Of those that do get something, they will apparently be lucky if the gift costs more than £20 whilst over £200 is lavished on gifts for children.
Oh and just in case you wanted to know the average spend for a partner is £163 with men apparently more generous than women although men take a minor role when helping to buy for everyone else.
For her eve of Christmas offering, Margaret Mills looked back at the life of an architect and builder, who although born and bred in Leicester, is credited for the design and building of many stately homes, and notably Shire Hall here in Essex.
