One million cockroaches have reportedly escaped from a farm in China.
The insects, which were being bred for use in traditional medicine, escaped from a facility in Dafeng, after an unknown person destroyed part of the greenhouse they were being kept in.
They are now thought to be nesting in surrounding cornfields.
Disease control authorities sent five investigators to the region to create a plan to eliminate the cockroaches.
Although the insect is generally considered a pest, believers in traditional Chinese medicine claim that extracts from it can be used to treat diseases such as cancer, improve immunity and reduce inflammation.
A bit of common sense in a local debate which seems to have got a bit out of hand…
Councillor Chris Hossack, who is heading a night-time economy working group at Town Hall, recently blamed Towie for encouraging girls to dress provocatively in Brentwood.
Nights out in the town have become popular because of the TV show, but Eric Pickles said in a recent interview that he wanted to create a safer environment, for women alone especially, so evenings would be “remembered with affection and not fear”.
Eric Pickles said the real issue is treating female revellers like human beings. “Women do go out wearing short skirts and they should be treated with respect,” he said.
“I believe people should be able to walk these streets safely.
“There are predatory men and we need to have something where people can be helped and put to safety.“I would be quite in favour of re-organising taxi queues, giving priority to girls on their own.
“It would be good for the town and neighbours as it gets rid of problems quicker. A short skirt is not an invitation to be assaulted.”
