Interview with Paul Carr from Billericay Churches

My guests in studio tonight were Paul Carr and his daughter Annabel. Paul is the Team Rector of the C. of E. churches in Billericay. He talked about what that actually means and about the kind of activities that happen at the church for which he has particular responsibility, Emmanual Laindon Road. This is the very modern looking church at the end of the High Street, which Paul told us is now twenty one years old. Annabel endorsed how good the church is for people of all ages. Paul told us about his early life in Sunderland, born into a mining family. He told us how life had taken him  through working in prisons before ordination in the C of E. His M.A. studies had been concerning the importance of churches being at the heart of their communities and giving people a sense of belonging. He chose music for us from Deacon Blue, Geordie lad Jimmy Nail and Guy Tortora,  a new name to look out for in the local blues clubs.

We had requests tonight for music by Roxy Music, Bruno Marrs, Eric Clapton, Toto and Carol Emerald. We also had tracks from Marvin Gaye, Madness, Norah Jones, Coldplay, Aloe Blac, James Morrison and others. In the chat room we found out about the history of marbles following on from a world championship win for the UK and speculated on an evening out in a pub stuck in the 1960s with no modernisatons.

Join me next week if you can. Why not leave a request for the show? Go, you know you want to.
