What’s that you say? Do a 3-hour special with 2 bands? Oh, all right then…
First up tonight were Chelmsford-based Porcupine Kiss (l-r Bill, Dave, Jules, Russ, Paul). The fivesome formed from the ashes of a few previous bands and have been making many an appearance on the local live scene during the past year, with more to come – they play 333 Mother in Hoxton on December 13th before heading out for more dates in January, including Chinnerys on the 14th and Stoke Newington on the 19th – the latter alongside The Others. Later on, I was joined by Martin and Tom from Unnatural Selection. Since their first appearance on the show back in January, the grindcore duo have gigged across London, Essex and beyond, and are currently working on a new EP (the follow-up to their debut En Theos), a more conceptual piece based on the influential sci-fi novel The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester. Alongside a chat about that, we also heard some demos-in-progress they’ve been working on and a host of musical recommendations for the forward-thinking metal fan.
