Graham aims to raise £5K in support of top local charities

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We had a fantastic guest into the studio last week in the shape of veteran fundraiser Graham Hart.

Graham will be celebrating his 84th birthday on June 4, during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend, and to commemorate this Graham has decided to raise funds in support of Essex people and families having difficult times, choosing Farleigh Hospice, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, Marie Curie and Sanctus as his charities.

Graham spoke to Patrick Sherring on his lunchtime One 2 Three programme about the importance he felt in relation to the work of these local charities that needed the support of local people as volunteers and fundraisers.

This was emphasised by Holly Butler who phoned in to the studio to chat about the work of the Helen Rollason Cancer charity. She outlined the ways that this charity seeks to support people who have had a positive cancer diagnosis. She stated that 50% of people would get such a diagnosis in their lifetime, although many will not be terminal.

Graham told us of the passing of his first wife Helen over twenty years ago and how the charities help not just the sufferer, but also provide great support to their families. Graham is seeking to raise £5,000 and can be supported through www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/graham-hart-3

You can hear Graham talking about his efforts on www.phoenixfm.com.

* I’m currently walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Saint Francis Hospice! I’m just about coming up to the end of my sixth week, having walked over 510 miles from Land’s End, and as you read this I’m just coming up to the Scottish border.
