Bank Holiday Sunday saw the return of the popular charity event the Soapbox Derby.
Now in its third year, the derby which is run and organised by the Rotary Club of Billericay was bigger and better than ever, it was also the hottest may bank holiday on record.
A fun day full of fantastic Soapbox racing down thunder hill with School, colleges, local businesses and individuals that have all been working hard on their entries competing in several different categories.
The Rotary Club of Billericay Soap Box Derby raises money for charities, schools and organisations locally with 100% of proceeds from this event going to local charities.
The event takes place at Sun Corner, Billericay and was inspired by the Red Bull Soap Box races held across the world, The SoapBox tradition was started in the States because the early karts were made out of wooden crates which were originally used to ship soap and other household items.

The band who are from South London, with occasional wanderings into Cambridgeshire describe their sound as firmly rooted in classic British rock, with a touch of grunge and a bit of Deep South swamp juice thown in for good measure – a pretty good mix, we hope you’ll agree!
But don’t just take my word on it……

Last weekend saw the return of the popular Brentwood Festival.
This years Acts included; Status Quo, Heaven 17, Go West, The Real Thing, Midge Ure, Jocelyn Brown, Expose and many more.
I was also back as official festival DJ and host.
The retro festival which has grown and grown in the recent years and is now the biggest event in the town’s calendar and has seen previous artists include, Billy Ocean, UB40, Tony Hadley, and the BoomTown rats.
This year the family friendly festival included a fun fair, mini market, and Nuclear Races obstacle course, with new additions including Alan Ford car dealership stand and extended hours after party.
The official festival charity this year was the British Heart Foundation who had a pop up shop and were also demonstrating how to conduct CPR which proved very popular.
I chatted with Francis Rossi from Status Quo who told me he was looking forward to getting on stage to rock the Brentwood crowd having previously performed in the indoor center many years ago, he was a fun friendly chap with a extremely dry sense of humor.
I also chatted briefly to Midge Ure who told me he still gets the same buzz performing to festival crowds, and as always expects the crowd will save the loudest cheer for Vienna..
Here are some of my favorite photos from the weekend;
