Brentwood Fest 2017

Last weekend saw the return of the popular Brentwood Festival.

This years Acts included;  Status Quo, Heaven 17, Go West, The Real Thing,  Midge Ure,  Jocelyn Brown, Expose and many more.

I was also back as official festival DJ and host.

The retro festival which has grown and grown in the recent years and is now the biggest event in the town’s calendar and has seen previous artists include, Billy Ocean, UB40, Tony Hadley, and the BoomTown rats.

This year the family friendly festival included a fun fair,  mini market, and Nuclear Races obstacle course,  with new additions including Alan Ford car dealership stand and extended hours after party.

The official festival charity this year was the British Heart Foundation who had a pop up shop and were also demonstrating how to conduct CPR which proved very popular.

I chatted with Francis Rossi from Status Quo who told me he was looking forward to getting on stage to rock the Brentwood crowd having previously performed in the indoor center many years ago, he was a fun friendly chap with a extremely dry sense of humor.

I also chatted briefly to Midge Ure who told me he still gets the same buzz performing to festival crowds, and as always  expects the crowd will save the loudest cheer for Vienna..

Here are some of my favorite photos from the weekend;

Alba on the Sunday Lunch Show

After moving to London from Madrid Spain, the now London-based singer, guitar player and composer ALBA is now on the road presenting her new EP “The London Sessions”, Alba took time out of her busy schedule to join me on the show this week and give her first UK interview and Live session to the Sunday Lunch Show on Phoenix FM.

At the age of sixteen, after playing guitar in several bands and having written a bunch of original songs, she founded her own band as lead singer and guitarist which she named Sons of Rock, and with whom she recorded their first and self-titled EP.

With Sons Of Rock, ALBA won over 20 national and international band contests, performing at large venues and music festivals such as Rock in Rio 2008 – where they shared the bill with Amy Winehouse, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Lenny Kravitz, They also opened for artists such as The Waterboys, Raimundo Amador, Revolver, Loquillo, Orishas, La Fuga and Celtas Cortos among others.

ALBA moved to London in 2016, and with the support of an outstanding line-up formed by drummer Dan Day, bassist Tonderai Mbiba and keyboard player Kayode Olajide, she has brought together a new sound, materialized in her newly released EP “The London Sessions”, available on iTunes, Amazon and all major music platforms.

Mila Falls on Sunday Lunch

This week we welcomed back to the Show the fantastic singer songwriter Mila Falls.

Mila popped into the phoenix FM studios to chat live about her brand new single ‘Guilty Pleasure’ and the forth coming video for the track.

‘Guilty Pleasure’ encapsulates the intoxicating throws of lust, love and feeling truly alive. Similarly the track uses an upbeat soul as a vehicle to deliver sonic-cheeriness, but this time with an RnB edge. Transporting you somewhere glorious and giving ‘escapism’ an entirely new meaning, this track delivers smooth tones, sung in a modulated fashion mixed with understated coo.

Mila has had a busy year with tour slots alongside Chase & Status, Jason Derulo, Years & Years, Dizzee Rascall and Jess Glynne. Plus extensive radio play on Radio 1, Kiss FM and of course Phoenix FM in her arsenal, 2016 is shaping up to be the year Mila Falls takes center stage with her most personal and revealing works to date.
