Lakeside Speedway – ZACH SET TO FLY

Arena Essex

The latest from the Lakeside Speedway Press Office…

IN-FORM Lakeside No.1 Zach Wajtknecht has been flying of late – and that’s also how he’ll be getting to Sunday’s home meeting against the Isle of Wight (3pm).

The 19-year-old is competing in a longtrack and beach race meeting in Guernsey on Saturday and had been trying to find an alternative way to ensure he’d be at Purfleet in time for the clash against the Warriors.

But he has now solved that problem and will taking to the air to speed up his journey.

Wajtknecht is on a stunning run which has seen him score four maximums in his last five meetings, one for the Swindon Sprockets in the National Trophy, dropping just a single point to an opponent in the process.

“I’m loving every minute of my racing at the minute and I think that always makes a difference,” Wajtknecht said.

“That’s another reason why I was so desperate to be there for the Hammers on Sunday too.

“I’ve done this beach meeting in Guernsey for a few years now and that’s another one that’s good fun.

“But I had to make sure I could get back to Lakeside and flying was the only real option.

“They could have got a guest in but we’re riding well as a team and I didn’t want to miss it if it could be helped.

“We may have lost at Birmingham on Wednesday, but it was still a good, important point.

“We’re confident every time we race at Lakeside and we’re confident we can get another win over the Isle of Wight. But we won’t be going into it too confident; they’ve got some decent riders at the top end of their team so we’ll all need to be on it again like we have been at home all season so far.”

The Vortex Lakeside Hammers will be at full strength as they aim to continue their unbeaten home run in the third tier.

The Warriors include experienced campaigners Ben Wilson and James Cockle as well as recent recruit Connor Coles.

LAKEISDE: Zach Wajtknecht, Nick Laurence, Paul Hurry, Alfie Bowtell, Ben Morley, Jamie Couzins, Connor Locke.
ISLE OF WIGHT: Ben Wilson, Kelsey Dugard, James Cockle, Chris Widman, Connor Coles, Jamie Sealey, TBC.
