Learning is all important

On today’s show we heard about two successful applications to university – one for a professorship and one for a student place.

Cambridge-uni-Professor-of-Lego

First off came news of the position of LEGO PROFESSOR OF PLAY, the £84K pa position just appointed by Cambridge University. The unusual posting has been funded by a £4m grant from the Lego Foundation, which also includes a specialist play research centre (PEDAL), built in 2015 and based in the Faculty of Education.

It seems that Cambridge University is no stranger to oddball appointments, since in 2014, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology advertised for a doctor of chocolate – to study how and why the substance melts.

Heat has probably something to do with it!

Meanwhile over in the US an 18-year old  student was awarded a place at the prestigious Yale University on the strength of an essay she wrote about ordering Pizza.

Pizza application

Well that’s food for thought, I guess.

See you again on Wednesday,
