1) Calvin Harris ($66 million)
This is Calvin Harris’ 3rd year in a row at number 1 and this year he matched his earnings from last year, which in pounds is £39.7m.
Being very modest he has said that “The rise of dance music has been astronomical… [he] happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
Well not only is Calvin a very rich man in the sense of money but rich in his relationship too has this year he starting dating Taylor Swift which meant they dethroned Jay and Beyoncé as music’s top-earning couple.
2) David Guetta ($37 Million)
Not quite making the richest DJ in the word, French producer David Guttea still has some amazing titles under his belt including number 1 on Billboard’s Top Ten Dance – Pop Collaborations of all time with ‘When Love Takes Over’ which features Kelly Rowland.
With 6 number 1’s since 2006, Guettta is in second place for the second year running as he got to the same spot last year when he earned $30m – so he has increased by 7million this year.
3) Tiësto ($36 million)
Possibly the longest going DJ on the list, Tiësto founded his record label back in the late 90’s. He was also the first DJ to play live on stage at the Olympics in 2004 when he performed in Athens for the Summer opening ceremony.
So of course he was high in the list last year and he actually keeps the same spot this year in third place.
4) Skrillex & Steve Aoki ($24million)
You’ve probably heard a lot of Skrillex recently as his collocation with Diplo and Justin Bieber – ‘Where Are You Now?’- has been played everywhere. It also won the Best Visual Effects Award at the recent MTV VMA’s and had also been nominated for Best art direction, best editing and Song of the summer.
He has definitely improved since this time last year as he has jumped from 9th place last year to 4th on the richest DJ list.
Steve Aoki has worked with some big names, collaborating with producers and vocalists such as will.i.am, Afrojack, LMFAO and Iggy Azelea. He is also known for his remixes.
Upcoming Horror film, The Hive, features tracks from Aoki’s the album Neon Future, not only did he create the soundtrack he also serves as an executive producer
6) Avicii ($19 million)
Swedish DJ Avicii is probably one of the more well known DJ’s on the list. And it’s not the first time he has been on this list, however he has been over taken this year – going down two notches from his spot at number three last year. With number 1 hits such as ‘I Can Be The One’ with Nicky Romero and ‘Wake Me Up’ in 2013 he has also had 5 top ten’s including his most recent ‘Waiting For Love’.
7) Kaskade – ($18 million)
Becoming popular back in late 2008 into the early 2009 and releasing 8 albums altogether and one on the way accompanied by a tour in October– Kaskade is still clearly doing very well. The American DJ and producer has earned titles of “America’s Best DJ 2011″ and “America’s Best DJ 2013” from American Magazine The DJ Times.
8) Zedd & Martin Garrix – ($17 million)
Zedd has collaborated with some big names such as Selena Gomez with ‘I Want You To Know’, Ariana Grande with ‘Break Free’ (which was his first number 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic chart) and producing the classic dance tune in 2012, ‘Clarity’ with Foxes which charted at number 8.
Dutch DJ and producer, Martin Garrix got his first UK number 1 with ‘Animals’ back in 2013, it also hit the top of the chart in Belgium and was in the top ten in 10 countries. He got a top ten hit for his collaboration with Usher as it got to number 9 when it was released in July and it is still in the top 100 now.
He is mentored and inspired by Tiesto.
10) Afrojack ($16 million)
Afrojack’s debut album entitled ‘Forget The World’ was released in 2014. His most track ‘Hey Mama’ which he co produced with David Guetta and features the vocals of Nicki Minaj reached the top ten this year at number 9.
