Judith, Lamont and Olivia

It’s been a sad week for losing music legends.
Today on the show I celebrated their lives and music.

Judith Durham, best known as the lead singer of the Australian group The Seekers, has died aged 79. Her band sold more than 50 million records and had hits including I’ll Never Find Another You, I Am Australian and Georgy Girl.

Motown legend Lamont Dozier has died aged 83.

Tributes poured in on social media to the “master songwriter” A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Born in Detroit, Lamont lived in California and is survived by his wife and three children.

You Can’t Hurry Love, This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You), It’s the Same Old Song are just a few of the many Motown hits penned by Lamont Dozier.

Olivia Newton-John, who has died aged 73, began her career as the sweetheart of country-pop.

It all changed when she donned black spandex for Grease, one of the most successful film musicals of all time.

Her new raunchy image found its peak in her 1981 album, Physical.

But a diagnosis of breast cancer saw her move to an introspective style and she devoted more time to humanitarian causes.

In May 2017 it was announced that her breast cancer had returned and spread to her back resulting in a cancellation of a planned tour in the US and Canada. She publicly campaigned for the legalisation of medicinal cannabis to ease the pain.

Several years later she became Dame Olivia, honoured for her music and charity work.

Sad indeed but the music lives on, and we had a good earful from each of them today. You can listen to the show here
