Claire Young talked about the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia. A number of conditions can cause dementia, including head injury, high blood pressure diabetes and strokes. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease of the brain, with no known cure. It is the most common cause of dementia. Dementia is progressive. There are 900,00 people with dementia in the UK aged over 65 years. There are 42,000 people aged under 65 with diagnosed dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society helps in a number of ways. More information is available on https://www.alzheimers.org.uk Here there is also information on the Dementia Connect phone line 0333 150 3456 where support and advice is available. There are local Singing with the brain clubs, Forget me not activity groups and cafes. Volunteers can be involved with all aspects of fundraising. Side by side volunteers enable people living with dementia to keep connected and continue doing the activities they love.
Clare is involved with helping communities become more dementia-friendly. At the moment Halsted is seeking to become dementia friendly in three key area: People, Processes and Places. For people this is raising awareness. For organisations, processes can be in place to support employees and volunteers. Places can be made accessible and easy to navigate.
Clare is willing to help any organisation seeking to develop to become dementia friendly.

Carlos Santana celebrated his 75th birthday on July 20th. We heard his 1977 track She’s not there. This track, with Greg Walker on vocals, as a UK no 11 and a USA no 27. The song was also a hit for the Zombies in 1964.
Maureen from Harlow was our winner today with three points for having the correct age for Paloma Faith. This was the only correct answer in the game. Tony was closest with two artists, giving him two points. Clare in the studio and Chris in Harlow both had one point. Bob and Lindy in Harlow, Chris in Guildford and Drive presenter Stewart all did not score this week. Thanks to everyone who took part. Maureen was very happy at the result.
