Going UP in the world↑

Unkindly, I tend to enjoy other people’s misfortunes rather than my own!

So on today’s programme we reported on the misfortune suffered by a woman waiting to enter her place of work.

Whilst hanging around outside waiting to get into her place of work, a Best One off-licence in Pontypridd, South Wales, 71-year old cleaner ANNE HUGHES found herself literally hanging in mid air.

It seems that whilst waiting for store manager, Amed Akram to open up for the new day, Anne’s clothing became caught in the shutter mechanism so as soon as the shutter went up, so did Anne at a rate of knots!

Realising her predicament and in a bid to delay her skyward launch, Anne vainly held on to her shopping trolley and desperately attempted to grab a nearby bin.

Alerted by screams from outside the shop Amed opened the door only to be confronted by a pair of upended legs against the window.

Trying unsuccessfully to release her he realised that the key to operate the mechanism was in the office so had to go back in to re-engage the motor to lower her back down to terra firma.

Fortunately Anne was no worse for her ordeal but things could have been a lot worse had she either fallen or got her hand caught in the mechanism.

Well at least the only thing going up in that shop are their staff, not their prices.

Of course being a Tuesday I was joined once more by Margaret Mills who this week turned her attention to a spate of arson attacks which occurred in various parts of Essex during the early months of 1844.

Apparently although no one was ever arrested and charged in connection with these attacks, they stopped as suddenly as they started and there was certainly some fairly substantial  circumstantial evidence pointing to at least one individual.

Listen again here to what Margaret had to say about these events: –

See you again next week,
Scott
