One 2 Three Friday 26.1.24 with Peter Livingstone from REMAP Essex

P H O E N I X   P L A Y E R
with Peter Livingstone from REMAP Essex
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Peter Livingstone chatted about Remap, a charity which designs and makes, or adapts, equipment for people with disabilities if no commercially available. Anyone can contact them and work is free., although donations always welcome. The charity began with ICI workers in Sunderland 60 years ago. There are seventy groups around the UK. The Mid-Essex group comprises of twenty, mainly retired, engineers. Nation-wide they deal with 3,500 projects, the Mid-Essex group around 120.

Peter spoke enthusiastically about the diversity of needs from different people and how group members had devised solutions. This included the design of a ‘Whack a mole’ game that could be used with people suffering from dementia. This is two feet square with sixteen lighted buttons. It has proved very successful. Using a kit that Remap provided, one board has been made at the Plume school in Maldon for use at the Southminster Day Centre. Also Fiddle boards have been produced at Felsted School.

Pushchair linked to a wheelchair. This wheelchair was produced to meet the needs of a young mother in Harlow. When it was no longer needed it was sold to Granada Television and featured in Coronation Street.
