Carol came to talk about her self-published book Martha’s secret. She visited the show with members of the creative writing group at Mulberry House in Ongar in August 2022. This group had been very important in encouraging Carol. Writing the book took her three months. She did not know where the plot would go when she began. She would often think through the story whilst travelling as a passenger in her husband’s car. After three months she woke up at 2 a.m. and knew the ending. A friend designed the jacket. Her husband Ian explained about the process of self publication. This was sending the finished manuscript and jacket to Amazon with no cost. They then print the book to order, keeping a percentage for the company. Ian described the process as “hard but do-able”. Carol is thrilled, as she never expected to be a published author, and amazed that she has sold some copies.
