For this week’s historical feature, Margaret Mills took us back to the 1840’s and the early days in the formation of the Essex police force.
Interestingly she revealed that many early police recruits came from the military, or were former farm labourers or shop assistants, but many failed to stay the course, often through drunkenness or associations with undesirable females!
