Don’t you just love AI – Artificial Intelligence, that is?

Now I think you know just what I think of many issues related to computers.

So you won’t be surprised by my reaction to news that Google’s AI feature has been accused of dispensing rubbish.

For example it has reportedly offered advice suggesting that users might want to add an 8th of a cup of non-toxic glue to a cheese sauce to make it better stick to pizza.

Potential chefs were also advised that the safe temperature to which chicken should be heated was 38 degrees C. If you followed this advice you’d probably be dead – it should actually be 73.9 degrees C.

Another gem for would be health freaks was to suggest eating one small rock a day as they “contain vitamins and minerals that are important for digestive health”,  albeit adding that eating rocks can be dangerous. Stone me!

Users were also helped with their history projects by being informed that only 17 out of 42 US presidents were white!

A Google spokesperson insists that the vast majority of feedback shows that answers provided by AI are of high quality with links to dig deeper on the web, and that the responses quoted above are unrepresentative!

Well that’s as maybe, but someone we can always count on for accurate information is Margaret Mills.

And for this week’s foray into the simpler times of the past, Margaret looked back at the life and times of a renowned clergyman from Ongar.

A pupil of Rugby school, he is reputed to have been the first boy to have ever picked up and run with ball, thereby creating the game of Rugby.
