Ahead of Thursday’s Drive I caught up with singer, songwriter, broadcaster and reigning champion of last year’s Drivetime Christmas number one, Mal Pope. It was lovely to catch up with Mal after his busy year releasing some of my favourite tracks of 2022 and we talked about all sorts including his current Christmas single featuring fellow Welsh icon Bronwen Lewis. We also covered all sorts from the World Cup to his plans for 2023. We talked about how his old school friend, Carolyn Harris MP managed to persuade him to release an entire album for the Everyone Deserves A Christmas campaign, how Mal’s fundraising efforts have included a video starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, calling a favour from his neighbourhood links to Nashville, working with a 200-strong choir of ladies and how he even managed to get the ACTUAL Jesus Christ Superstar on the album too!
