On this week’s show we had reports on no less than four non-League football games of local interest, and I don’t think we could have had four more exciting and goal-packed fixtures to feature!

Leigh Bailey provided us with a summary of the Isthmian Premier League encounter between Billericay Town and Bognor Regis Town at New Lodge, in which the hosts staged an incredible comeback in the final 10 minutes, turning what was heading for a 2-0 defeat to a 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Anthony Jeffery, Chris Dickson and Bradley Stevenson, the latter of whom scored a last-minute penalty to take Dan Brown’s side into the top half of the table.

Meanwhile at the Brentwood Centre Arena, Andy Gardener was watching Brentwood Town take on Witham Town in the Isthmian North, and what turned out to be an eight-goal thriller saw Rod Stringer’s Blues win 5-3 to continue a run of form which has vastly improved since the early stages of the 2022/23 campaign.

The FA Vase First Round Proper also took place at the weekend, with a number of local sides involved, and we had reports on two of the relevant ties.

Scott Lanza was at Myrak Park to watch Buckhurst Hill of the Essex Senior League take on Thurlow Nunn Division One South newcomers Basildon Town.

The sides fought out a 2-2 draw, so the tie was decided on penalties with hosts the Stags winning the shootout 5-3, their goalkeeper Daniel Blockley making himself a hero by saving the decisive spot-kick from Town’s Mitch Keen.

Our other featured tie saw another Essex Senior League side Romford involved in an epic encounter up in Suffolk, as they travelled to Newmarket Town of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, a match described for us by Joe O’Sullivan.

Boro progressed to the Second Round by winning 4-3, George Allen scoring a 93rd minute winner to send the travelling fans into raptures just as it looked like the tie would end with a penalty shootout.

The ties are due to be played on the weekend of Saturday 12th November.

We also had an exclusive interview this week with Billericay striker Matt Price, which can be heard during the first half hour of the show.
