One 2 Three Friday 8.7.22 with Andy Griffiths & John Horner

One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Andy and John joined me to chat about hosting Ukrainian refugees. Andy is the Co-ordinator of the Communities for Ukraine scheme. This is a joint venture between the Diocese of Chelmsford and Citizens UK. John is hosting a family in a flat in Ingatestone. Andy said that the scheme aimed to house fifty Ukrainians. To date, fifty two people have been placed. Thirty five of them have visas and twenty nine are now in the UK. He emphasised the importance of a community being involved in hosting and that three people were needed to support each individual Ukrainian. Ten hubs have now been established. John spoke about the importance of building a church team to support and had been encouraged by the response in Ingatestone. He gave an example of how a boy had been integrated into Ingatestone C. of E. Junior school and would happily go and play football with his friends in the park. Andy commented that there were still many more people wanting to come than hosts offering accommodation. Anyone interested in being a host needs to be pro-active  and find a group, as networks were already in place. Locally these are in Chadwell St. Mary, Writtle and Ingatestone. https://opora.uk would be a good starting point. More information can be also be found at
