Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett – the hardest-working man in rock – has announced a brand new tour for 2022 – “Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited – Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights”.
The tour will mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary Genesis album Foxtrot which, in 1972, was pivotal in establishing the band as a major force in British rock.
Foxtrot was critically acclaimed and became the first Genesis album to make the top 20 UK album charts. The first track, the sci-fi influenced Watcher of the Skies became a fan favourite and perennial live set opener while Get ‘Em Out By Friday was a cutting slice of social comment about concrete tower blocks replacing aging slums, driven not by concern for communities but by the greed of developers.
I caught up with Steve to talk about his memories of joining Genesis and churning out so many albums while writing and touring furiously – and his solo career which has also seen an astronomical number of releases and tours too!
Steve was responsible for two of Foxtrot’s best tracks – the classical Horizons and the beautifully pastoral Can-Utility and the Coastliners – and we also talked a little bit about the 23 minute epic Supper’s Ready which finishes off the album.
You can catch Steve all over the UK – local dates include:
Sun 11 Sep: Cambridge Corn Exchange
Mon 03 Oct: Southend Cliffs Pavilion
Tue 04 Oct: Ipswich Regent Theatre
Wed 12 Oct: Hammersmith Eventim Apollo
