It was great to be chatting with all the guests and hearing about what Christmas means to them. Local 17 year old singer/songwriter Sophie Griffths chatted about her career to date and we listed to her two tracks released this year. Her self-penned track ‘Holding on to you’ is my track of the year.
Also popping in to the show was be Nikki Mills, formerly regularly presenting on Phoenix98FM and now working on Revelation T.V. She told us about her first three months on the station. We also learnt that the main Christmas celebrations in Spain are around the 6th of January. Having flown in to the UK on the 23rd of December she will he having Christmas and the New Year celebrations here, then back to Spain for Christmas number 2! Revd. Adrian McConnoughie, Chaplain at Brentwood School told us about celebrations at the school, including a scratch choir of present and fellow pupils singing at the service in the chapel on New Year’s Eve. His son Jonty, who used to work on my Friday evening show and is now at Oxford University studying law told us about the acapella group Out of the Blue of which he is now a member. The group has been in existence for twenty years and raised many thousands for charity. Their latest track ‘Frozen Medley’ is available on YouTube and to buy via download. Amie, who now works on the show on Fridays and attends a local Secondary school was in the studio with her mother Nicola. We heard about a family tradition to have a Scandinavian style meal on Christmas Eve so that their appetites will be ready for Christmas Dinner next day. There was a general feeling in the studio that we did not really like the idea of eating roll mop herring.be here. Tim Lee who is involved with the churches in Margaretting, Mountnessing, Buttsbury and Ingatestone was with us throughout the show. He recalled building an igloo in the garden with his father in the winter of 1962/3. We hear what Christmas means to all of them. Spending time with family and friends was very important.
They almost all felt that attending church over the Christmas period was not just a family tradition, but something that was really important in reminding them of the real reason for Christmas celebrations. The guests favourite Christmas carol was ‘Hark the Herald angels sing’. I said that I had already sung this carol 15 times this year.
Their favourite Christmas song was Band Aid ‘Do they know it’s Christmas ?’
Nicki told us how this time last year she could only dream of working on T.V. in Spain and she had followed her dream. We felt all that she had done was good advice for 2020.
