Lib Dems select Cllr David Kendall to take on Alex Burghart

Local Liberal Democrats have selected well known councillor and campaigner David Kendall to take on Alex Burghart and fight the Brentwood & Ongar seat at the General Election.

David has lived in Brentwood for thirty years and has been a Brentwood Borough Councillor for most of that time, representing first Brentwood West and now Pilgrims Hatch.

He has also been an Essex County Councillor for over ten years representing the Brentwood South Division. He owns and operates a small business in the heart of the constituency which he set up from scratch fifteen years ago.

As a local councillor David has worked on a wide range of issues including fighting library closures, mental health, transport and highways. He knows the Brentwood & Ongar constituency very well and over the years has met and helped thousands of residents.

Speaking after his selection, David Kendall said “I am delighted to be contesting the Brentwood & Ongar seat for the Liberal Democrats at this key moment in our country’s history. For me Stopping Brexit and the loss of trust in Boris Johnson’s Conservative government are two of the key issues at stake at this election. However I am also passionate about getting better mental health services, addressing climate change and fighting for improvements to our rail and bus services.

“At the recent Euro elections the Liberal Democrats came a strong second in Brentwood & Ongar as residents recognised us as the only credible Remain party and the only serious alternative to the Conservatives. We live in very uncertain political times and I sense there is a real mood for change. Many residents I’ve spoken to don’t trust Boris Johnson’s Conservative government and are totally opposed to a no deal Brexit because they believe it will be an economic disaster for this country and will cause food and medical shortages.

“If I am elected as the MP for Brentwood & Ongar I will champion residents’ views at Westminster on Brexit and the issues that matter to them and give them the service and action they deserve.”
