Film Friday & The One Hit Wonder World Cup Semifinals

With Film Friday we had a well deserved break from one hit wonders with a playlist built entirely out of Hollywood hits and songs from the movies. You threw in a few requests with some absolute belters and we bopped into the weekend rounding off the end of my week in the driving seat with “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”.

We were also joined by Mark Searby for our weekly film review and you can catch up on that here.

Mark tells us about;

X-Men: Dark Phoenix – Jean Grey develops incredible powers that corrupt her. The X-Men must decide if it is worth risking a life of a team member in-order to save the Earth.

Late Night – A late night TV talk show host suspects she may soon be losing her job.

Stan & Ollie – The later years of the comedic duo as they travel to the UK trying to re-ignite their flagging career.

Vice – An alleged biopic of the unassuming Vice President to George W. Bush who gained ultimate power.

We had a one hit wonder amnesty on Friday but the One Hit Wonder World Cup Semifinals are taking place over this weekend. You’ll be able to vote on semifinal 1 on the Phoenix FM Facebook page and you can vote on semifinal 2 via Twitter @StewPink or @PhoenixFM until 3pm Monday.

Here is a recap of the songs that made the semifinal

Join me on Monday for my last Drivetime before we return to business as usual and, of course, for the One Hit Wonder World Cup Final!

If you missed it, I’ll be putting together a mix of the best bits from my Drivetime cover on my regular podcast. Just search “Stewart Pink” wherever you get your podcasts from and if you’re a fan of my shows then be sure to tune in for my regular hangouts – I present The As Yet Untitled Rock Show every Tuesday from 10pm and The One2Three Show every Friday from 1pm.
