Bringing on back the good times!

On today’s show I was surprised and delighted to find myself talking with a 60’s legend.

Yes I got the chance to chat with STEVE ELLIS who was the lead singer with LOVE AFFAIR who had a string of hits in the late 60’s.

Who can forget their first number one song EVERLASTING LOVE which made it to the top spot in February 1968. That song has gone down as one of THE all time greats, but they had a string of other hits like EVERLASTING LOVE, RAINBOW VALLEY and BRINGING ON BACK THE GOOD TIMES, to name but a few.

Steve left LOVE AFFAIR at the end of 1969 but apart from a short (and not uneventful) sabbatical, out of the industry, continues making music to this day and released a new album – BOOM BANG TWANG in APRIL, from which his new single written by Gerry Marsden, DON’T LET THE SUN CATCH YOU CRYING, has been taken. Although this is a cover version of the song originally recorded by Gerry and the Pacemakers, it has received a glowing testimonial from Gerry himself.

Listen again here to my chat with STEVE and enjoy: –

They say that necessity is the mother of invention and if that’s true then 21-year old, Newcastle based Student Joe Furness has got it made.

When he wanted to meet up with friends in London rather than paying the £78.50 rail fare to the capital, he decided to take the scenic route – VIA SPAIN.

Looking at the options, he found that he could fly from Newcastle to Menorca for £15.99 and then a flight from Menorca to London for £10.99 and to top it off he got 12 hours on the stunning Balearic Island in high summer.

He even hired a car to drive round the island for £7.50, stopped off for a £4 cocktail on the beach and danced the night away at a Spanish festival before making his way back to the airport.

In all he spent £38.48 travelling to Spain and back, hiring a car and enjoying that cocktail, but still saved £40 on the direct train journey.

Right I’m off – but I don’t think there’s a cheaper way home than by car!

I’ll see you again next week,
Scott
