With it being New Years Eve tomorrow the winter window is just a day away! This week I will be going through 4 transfer rumours as per usual, as well as 5 done deals thanks to Scott W.
Steven N’Zonzi – Sevilla To Man City (£25 Million reported fee*)
So start of the season favourites Manchester City are chasing down ex Stoke City player N’Zonzi. Steven’s current club Sevilla have confirmed to a source that they expect to lose the defensive midfielder. It’s not surprising Man City are pursuing interest in N’Zonzi due to his impressive form so far this term. Another factor that adds to this rumour is the fact Man City will most likely miss out on Gündogan for the rest of the season due to cruciate Ligament damage. With N’Zonzi’s playing style being compared to Guardiola favourite Busquets this deal seems likely. N’Zonzi is hot stuff at the moment in the world of rumours with the Frenchmen being linked to many Premier league clubs so it will be interesting to see if a move in January does happen!
Rumour Rating 7/10
Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City To Liverpool (£30 Million reported fee*)
Leicester City’s title winning shot stopper Schmeichel has been linked to a move to Merseyside. With Liverpool keepers this year having a fairly rough start Klopp may want a new solid option between the sticks. Claudio Ranieri has already said these rumours to be nonsense about a Schmeichel departure the sports personality coach of the year said “we won’t sell him under any circumstances. Not even big money”. So this rumour seems unlikely but Liverpool may have a new keeper top of their Transfer list, as so far this season Mignolet and Karius have only kept 5 clean sheets in 18 league games. In my opinion it’s unlikely for the champions to sell their number 1 between the sticks hence the low score.
Rumour Rating 4/10
Isco – Real Madrid To Spurs
If this rumour happens it will most likely be the biggest deal of the winter. So Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco has been linked to a move to London more specifically Spurs. Sources suggest that Spurs manager Pochettino is a big fan of the spainish midfielder so he may try bring him in at Spurs. With the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen already good options in this position I’m not sure if they really need him. Isco is out of contract at the Bernabéu 2018 so he will need to sign a new deal or find a new club sooner or later so this rumour has got potential but I don’t see him leaving just yet from Spain.
Rumour Rating 5/10
Marcos Rojo – Manchester United To Valencia
The sharp tackling Argentinian Marcos Rojo is rumoured to leave Old Trafford in the winter transfer window. Reportedly the Spainish club Valencia have placed a bid for the defender. Rojo has become a regular starter under Mourinho as he has started the last 8 games at the back for the Red Devil’s so it wouldn’t be ideal for Rojo to leave at this stage. Rojo joined Manchester United back in 2014 for £16 million so I would predict if he was to go it would be for £20 million plus.
Rumour Rating 5/10
Now Phoenix sports co-presenter Scott W has gathered up some of the done deals in the football league.
Completed Transfers – Football League (EFL Championship, League 1 & League 2)
[To go through in the next few days at the start of the January transfer window]
Yoann Arquin – [Syrianska [Sweden] – Mansfield Town] Free Transfer
The 28-year old striker joins Steve Evans’ League Two side on a undisclosed-length contract. Arquin previously had spells had with Notts County and Scottish sides Ross County and St Mirren.
Callum McManaman [West Brom – Sheffield Wednesday] Loan
Ex-Wigan winger McManaman, 25, joins the Owls on a five-month loan deal, having struggled to get a game for his parent club this season. McManaman was a part of the FA Cup-winning Wigan side back in 2013.
Dan Sweeney [Maidstone Utd – Barnet] Undisclosed fee
The 22-year-old midfielder joins League Two Barnet after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee. Sweeney, an England ‘C’ International, will replace recently-departed Sam Togwell, who left to join National League Premier side Eastleigh.
Lukas Jutkiewicz [Burnley – Birmingham City] £1million
The 27-year-old ex-Coventry and Middlesbrough striker joins the Blues on a full-time basis on a three & a half-year contract following a loan spell at the club. Birmingham will no doubt hope he can help spearhead a play-off challenge in the EFL Championship this season.
Jamal Lowe (Hampton & Richmond Borough – Portsmouth] Undisclosed fee
In another good story from Non-League, 22-year-old striker Jamal Lowe joins Paul Cook’s promotion-chasing Pompey side on an 18-month contract, having already hit 15 league goals for the Beavers this season in National League South.
