Between the Lines – 13/01/2018

We kicked today show off with Sam Smith’s smash hit Pray!

Cardiff City 4                             (Att: 17703)

C Paterson (⚽️46, ⚽️80)

J Ralls (⚽️55)

A Pilkington(⚽️90+4)

Sunderland 0

This game was always going to be an up hill challenge for Sunderland. Before kick off it was 3rd place against last placed (24th). The first half ended goalless, but within 90 seconds into the second half Paterson made the most of a  defensive mistake from Sunderland and scored! From now on it was all Cardiff a brilliant strike from Ralls and a last minute goal from Pilkington finished Sunderland off! Paterson completed his brace in the 80th minute as well.

Transfer Chat

The January transfer window is heating up for sure! On the show I spoke about plenty of rumours such as Kante to French giants PSG and one I was personally surprised with was Hernandez back to Manchester United!

I also revealed the results to a poll I ran on twitter on the show today. The question was “Where will Sanchez end up? The results were really mixed this suggests that this transfer saga has got everyone on edge as no one quite knows where the Chilean will end up.

I played a real mixed of music today, see a list below of my five favourites from today’s show!

Disclosure feat Lorde – Magnets

Catfish and the Bottlemen – Soundcheck

Hoosiers – Worst Case Scenario

Axwell ^ Ingrosso feat. Trevor Guthrie – Dreamer

Between the Lines – 06/01/18

It’s the first show of 2018! We had live FA Cup Third Round action as Fleetwood took on Leicester and Middlesbourgh played Sunderland.

Fleetwood Town 0                            (5,008 attendance)

Leicester 0

Fleetwood of League 1 challenged Premier League heavyweights Leicester City in the 3rd Round clash today. The first half saw an impressive defensive display by Fleetwood Town to keep it goal-less. The game finished goal-less as well, but Fleetwood did have a good go with an array of chances, one even hitting the post. Overall a good day for Fleetwood Town. A team who will now have a replay at the King Power Stadium.

Middlesbourgh 2                          (26399 attendance)

R Gestede “10”

M Braithwaite “42”

Sunderland 0

Sunderland troubles continued in the cup against rivals Middlesbourgh. Goals from Rudy Gestede and Martin Braithwaite were the differences.

La Liga

I briefly mentioned the crazy incident that occurred in Atletico Madrids lunchtime match against Getafe C.F. In the game we saw Atletico Madrid striker and ex Chelsea forward Diego Costa score and get sent off in the same minute due to an excessive celebration which gave Costa a second yellow. The sending off did not effect the result as Madrid won 2 – 0.

League 1

Northampton Town 3                                  5,267 Attendance

John-Joe O’Toole “19”

Matt Grimes “49” pen

Alex Revell “90”

Southend United 1

Jason Demetriou “26” pen

Northampton against Southend United was another game that was in play during the show. As the game kicked off at 2pm we only could squeeze in the first half of the match.

From the 60s with The Beatles “Paperback Writer” to current day music with NF “Let You Down”. It was safe to say we had a real mix to listen to today.

Divine Comedy, Manic Street Preachers, One Republic and The Kooks were all also played on today’s show.

Each week on Saturday at 1pm I’m live on Phoenix FM, tune in!

Between the Lines – 30/12/17

Being just a day before New Years Eve, I had to play some New Years themed songs!

Celtic 0

Rangers 0

The Old Firm Derby finished goal-less today. A game either side could’ve won!

This weeks edition of Between the Lines started with a New Years themed hit, The Foo FightersNext Year. I also played PRINCE with his huge hit 1999 not long after to stick to the theme! The 3rd new years themed tune I played was Pulp – Disco 2000.

In the second hour U2 – New Year’s Day was the first themed song to be played! T Rex 20th Century Boy was another of the themed tunes. To end the show I choose the absolute New Years anthem The Final Countdown!

Not only did I play songs that are New Years themed but I played songs that celebrated what a great year of music 2017 was! I played DespacitoHavana and also Liam Gallager – For What It’s Worth. My presenters pick track of the year Feel It Still was also played!

Between the Lines – 23/12/17

I started with Wizzard, finished with Shakin Stevens!

Premier League

Everton 0                                       (Att 39181)

Chelsea 0

This weeks featured game was played at Goodison Park home of Everton Football Club. The Toffees faced a tough test against last years champions Chelsea. The game finished goalless, which is always a shame on radio! Chelsea almost opened the scoring early on in this game, if it wasn’t for Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams goal line defensive heroics. Evertons GK Jordan Pickford was yet again impressive, so that’s a positive. To summarise a great defensive performance from Big Sams boys!

As well as keeping an eye on the early kick off, I looked ahead and previewed all the festive football!

La Liga

Real Madrid 0                           (Att 80264)

D Carvajal ( 🔴63)

Barcelona 3

L Suarez (⚽️54)

L Messi (⚽️64 pen)

A Vidal (⚽️90+3)

I don’t normally feature Spanish football on the show but with arguably the biggest game in world football going on I couldn’t resist! The El Classico kicked off midday today so I was able to feature the second half of the clash on the show. The first half finished goal-less, but Luis Suarez converted a brilliant cross from Roberto just after the break to make it 1-0 Barca! Soon after Carvajal was sent off in the process giving away a penalty which was converted by Messi. Late on in the game Vidal added even more shame to the home team as he slotted in a third just before the full time whistle.

Today on the show I played an array of Christmas hits including songs from Wham!, Darkness and Wizard.

I played a few indie and alternative tunes such as Are U Mine, Kiwi 🥝 and Creature Comforts as well!

Listen to Between the Lines 1-3pm each Saturday for updates of live football, team news, transfer news and much more!

Between the Lines – 16/12/17

Between the Lines kicked off with one of The Wombats new tracks Lemon To A Knife Fight!

Leicester City 0

O Ndidi (🔴 61)

Crystal Palace 3

 C Benteke (⚽️19)

W Zaha (⚽️40)

B Sako (⚽️90+4)

The featured game this week was Leicester City against Crystal Palace. The game saw Christian Benteke score Crystal Palace first away goal in over 900 minutes, then Wilfred Zaha made it two with a goal in the 40th minute. The second half saw birthday boy Ndidi sent off for Leicester with a second yellow card for an awful dive in the box. The game finished with a late superb curling strike from Sako (Crystal Palace midfielder). So overall a massive surprise result in the early PL kick off.

As always on Between the Lines team news from all five Premier League three’o’clock kick offs was delivered to the listeners.

Although the season has just ended the previews have just began. I looked at the comfirmed 2018 calendar and was happy to see the return of the French GP!

This weeks music selection was a real mix from the radio edit of Green Day – American Idiot to Bob Marley – Sun is Shining!

Listen to Between the Lines 1-3pm each Saturday for live updates of the early PL kickoff!

Derby Day!

Derby Day!

This weeks Between the Lines was an exciting one!

Two Derbys were taking place.
1. The Old Firm – So of course this Derby consists of Rangers and Celtic. In this game we saw Celtic victorious away at the Ibrox Stadium, a defeat that all Rangers fans would despise. The opener was scored by Australian international Tom Rogic, the second from Leigh Griffiths a man who was scored 66 goals in 75 apps for Celtic.
2. The London Derby – This one ended up being the more interesting of the two. West Ham against Spurs at the London Stadium. Two first halve goals from Harry Kane put Spurs in a good position going into the second half. The second 45 started well for Spurs as Eriksen made it 3-0 for Tottenham away from home, soon after Serge Aurier was sent for an early shower as he received his second yellow in 6 minutes. Soon after this red card Hernandez grabbed a goal back and gave West Ham a lifeline, the Hammers gave it a good go but it wasn’t enough a late goal by Kouyate made it 3-2 to Spurs.

The show also featured a preview to a boxing match between 2012 British Gold medalist “Luke Campbell” who faces the WBA World Light Weight Champion Jorge Linares, in a battle for the belt!

“The Top Ten Football Fans Bases in the World” was this weeks Top 10, inspired by Celtic being nominated for the best fan base in “The Best Awards”. This list saw the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Boca Juniors, Napoli and Celtics supporters get a mention.

Thanks for reading, I’m on Phoenix each Saturday 1-3pm tune in! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Between the Lines 2/9/17 – Billericay’s Success

On this weeks Between the Lines with now new host Aaron Heanue featured FA Cup qualifying round 1,  F1, League 1, T20 finals day and Deadline day talk/News.

To start with Billericay Town triumphed against Didcot Town in style as they won 5-0! A hat trick from Robinson that included a lovely chip. Jeremy Lynch from the F2 also made his Bilericay Town and FA Cup debut coming on as a sub.

The Italian Grand Prix Qualifying round 1 was red flagged due to a Grosjean crash. Unfortunately  qualifying kept getting delayed for 2 and a half hours due to the heavy rain fall, Qualifying resumed around 4pm.

Finally in league 1 Bradford City were 3-1 winners against Bristol Rovers.

Tune in or listen online each week 1-3pm 📻📻📻

Done Deals! 24/07/17

The latest done deals in the world of football.

So far this transfer window has been filled with drama. From Man City spending £125.7 Million on 3 full backs in the past week and a half to Wayne Rooney returning to Everton after 13 years! A lot has happened already but there is still time for even more football movements to come as Deadline Day is still over a month away!

Benjamin Mendy (Monaco to Man City) £49.2m

Benjamin completed his transfer today after undergoing a medical in LA. The 23 year old Frenchmen has been City’s first choice LB target this window and finally the deal has been completed. It has to be said Monaco are losing a lot of key players this Transfer Window we saw City Snatch Bernando Silva as well earlier this Summer for a huge £43m. Mendy enjoyed a superb 2015/16 season with Monaco. He enjoyed 5 MOTM performances and gathered up 8 assists in competitions such as Ligue 1 and the Champions League. £49.2m does seem pricey for a 23 year old full-back, but with City also spending £50m on 27 year old full-back Kyle Walker who only managed 5 assists last season it seems reasonable!

Marko Arnautovic (Stoke to West Ham) £25m

The Austrian International completed his move to the London Stadium on the 22nd of July. Marko enjoyed 4 years at Stoke making 145 appearances for the club scoring 26 times before joining up with the Hammers. Arnautovic is the 3rd new signing this transfer window for West Ham with the club already signing two ex Man City players being Goal Keeper Joe Hart and Right Back Zabaleta, it seems like West Ham are signing players with good experience in the English game in their hopes for a top 6 finish next season. The former Champion league winner with Inter is looking likely to start against his former boss Mourinho in the opening weekend of the season as West Ham face Man Utd on Sunday the 13th!

Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid to Chelsea) £60m

With Diego Costa’s relationship with his current boss Antonio Conte only getting worst by the day, Chelsea have a new Spanish International up top! Morata completed his move to the Blues by signing a mega 5 year contract. The new number 9 at Chelsea has said “It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club”. With Morata being linked with both Ac Milan and Man Utd its interesting to see the saga end with this move to Chelsea. With Morata only starting 14 games in La Liga last year you can see why Morata wanted the move. Scoring 14 goals from 18 starts in all competitions Morata could be a contender for the golden boot come the end of the season!

Here are some other noticeable transfers from the past week! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Danilo [Real Madrid – Manchester City] £26.5m

Darren Randolph [West Ham – Middlesbrough] £5m

Aleksandar Kolarov [Manchester City – Roma] £4.5m

Andrew Robertson [Hull – Liverpool] £8m up to £10m

Javier Manquillo [Atletico Madrid – Newcastle] Undisclosed

Kurt Zouma [Chelsea – Stoke] Loan

Jacob Murphy [Norwich – Newcastle] Undisclosed (reported £12m)

Britt Assombalonga [Nottingham Forest – Middlesbrough] £15m

Wojciech Szczesny [Arsenal – Juventus] £10m
