Between the Lines – 06/01/18

It’s the first show of 2018! We had live FA Cup Third Round action as Fleetwood took on Leicester and Middlesbourgh played Sunderland.

FA CUP 3RD ROUND

Fleetwood Town 0                            (5,008 attendance)

Leicester 0

Fleetwood of League 1 challenged Premier League heavyweights Leicester City in the 3rd Round clash today. The first half saw an impressive defensive display by Fleetwood Town to keep it goal-less. The game finished goal-less as well, but Fleetwood did have a good go with an array of chances, one even hitting the post. Overall a good day for Fleetwood Town. A team who will now have a replay at the King Power Stadium.

Middlesbourgh 2                          (26399 attendance)

R Gestede “10”

M Braithwaite “42”

Sunderland 0

Sunderland troubles continued in the cup against rivals Middlesbourgh. Goals from Rudy Gestede and Martin Braithwaite were the differences.

La Liga

I briefly mentioned the crazy incident that occurred in Atletico Madrids lunchtime match against Getafe C.F. In the game we saw Atletico Madrid striker and ex Chelsea forward Diego Costa score and get sent off in the same minute due to an excessive celebration which gave Costa a second yellow. The sending off did not effect the result as Madrid won 2 – 0.

League 1

Northampton Town 3                                  5,267 Attendance

John-Joe O’Toole “19”

Matt Grimes “49” pen

Alex Revell “90”

Southend United 1

Jason Demetriou “26” pen

Northampton against Southend United was another game that was in play during the show. As the game kicked off at 2pm we only could squeeze in the first half of the match.

Music

From the 60s with The Beatles “Paperback Writer” to current day music with NF “Let You Down”. It was safe to say we had a real mix to listen to today.

Divine Comedy, Manic Street Preachers, One Republic and The Kooks were all also played on today’s show.

Each week on Saturday at 1pm I’m live on Phoenix FM, tune in!
