We had a packed and busy show tonight. My guest in the first hour tonight was old friend of the show Ian Moore. Having been making regular trips to the Congo since 2003, in ten days time Ian is off once again. He told us that when he made his first trip, the pastor that he had met in England, whose English was not great, was the only person he knew in the country. He was greeted by over fifty people at the airport and then driven down a main thoroughfare with a huge banner over it proclaiming ‘Pastor Ian Moore, healing crusade’. He told us of the warmth and hospitality of the people and that now there are a number of children in the Congo called Ian, a very unusual name for a Congolese boy. Ian talked with enthusiasm and excitement about going again, saying that it a wonderful faith filled experience. He promises to come back and tell us about experiences on this year’s trip.
Just after nine I was joined by Issy Collins. She talked about the Fashion Almighty charity fashion show in St. Edmund & St. Mary Parish Church in Ingatestone on Thursday, which is already sold out. It is raising money for World Challenge and will help the funding towards a trip to Costa Rica where Issy and others will be helping with aid projects as well as experiencing life in a very different country. Issy’s father had a stroke last year and she wanted to organise an event that could also raise money for the Stroke Association. She said how much they had helped her and her family, including her father. He is now much better.
We also had a number of odd news stories. This included a Comedy Club in Barcelona having screens set into the back of chairs with face recognition software that means they can charge every time someone in the audience laughs. In the chat room this led to ten minutes of Spanish jokes. We also heard that 40% of English people admit to not being able to spell many everyday words and would go into a panic if they lost their spell checker. There was also an author who said that the English could be identified by the way they used the word typical.
Musical highlights included the new album Interlude by Jamie Cullum and also Lady Antebellum’s new release 747. A track was featured in each hour. We had lots of positive comments about both.
