Skillshare International at the Brentwood Festival

Brad Acton spoke to Jibin and Charlotte from Skillshare International, who were at the Brentwood Festival promoting the work their charity takes part in.

2014-07-20 Brad Interviewing Skillshare (Steve R)

Brad: Can you give me an overview of what it is that you do?

Jibin: Skillshare International is an international development charity, part of the Department for International Development. Skillshare specifically works in southern Africa – Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa – working on sports and educational programmes in deprived communities.

Brad: Have you been out to these countries yourself?

Jibin: Yes, as volunteers it’s about giving back to society. We try to get 18-25 year olds to come over to these countries to take part in our volunteer programmes. We’re at the Brentwood Festival to see if we can get as many people as possible.

Brad: Can you tell us about any of the projects you’ve been involved in?

Charlotte: I’ve just come back from Cape Town in the town of Alantis working on a disability awareness project – playing football, running art projects and undertaking a local survey in the township to find out about disability awareness.

I was there for 10 weeks. It was the most amazing experience ever.

Brad: Is there more work you need to do in the UK to support this?

Charlotte: There are various stages – fundraising, then the actual going there, and when you return you come back you take part in Action At Home which encourages more people to take part.

Brad: Where can you find out more about what you do?

Jibin: Skillshare have a Facebook and an official website as well.
