Latitude returned to Henham Park in Suffolk on July 20th-23rd for its 17th festival, with a host of great music, comedy, theatre, woodland & water activities and local organisation & charity stalls to check out. Nick Field met up with some of the performers throughout a busy 4 days where the performances were even more wildly varied than the weather!
Don Letts
Don Letts appeared at Latitude this year playing his debut solo album Outta Sync in its entirety, as well as being one of the meal curators at the Guest Chef tent. Don has had a long and varied career since starting out as a film and music video director and videographer in the late 70s, later joining Big Audio Dynamite alongside The Clash’s Mick Jones in the 80s. He continues to work in music and film alongside radio and event DJing, and whatever else he can turn his hand to – keep up with it all at donletts.com
The Bootleg Beatles
The Bootleg Beatles are widely regarded as one of the world’s most prominent (and accurate) Beatles cover bands, and last year celebrated their 40th anniversary of performing. Their Sunday afternoon slot at Latitude was the latest in a series of festival appearances throughout July and August, ahead of a UK tour in the autumn. Check out their latest dates – and just how close they are to the real thing! – at bootlegbeatles.com
Red Rum Club
Red Rum Club culminated a busy weekend of festival appearances with their third one in as many days (Truck and Tramlines being the other two) with a set at Latitude’s Sunrise Arena. The Liverpool foursome have received acclaim for their latest album How To Steal the World, and have more festival appearances to come – check their website at redrumclub.com for the latest updates.
ActionAid UK
ActionAid UK was back at Latitude this year with its brilliant temporary tattoo studio, featuring designs from three of the UK’s top female tattooists as part of their ongoing #MyBodyIsMine campaign. The charity works in several countries and specialises in humanitarian aid, child sponsorship and worldwide issues affecting women and girls. Phoenix FM chatted to Sophie from the charity about their current campaigns and upcoming events, as well as how listeners can get involved. Find out more at https://www.actionaid.org.uk/
Greenpeace
Latitude prides itself on being an environmentally friendly festival, and every year there’s a strong presence from Greenpeace to show festival-goers how to be more eco-friendly at home too. This year saw the return of the Greenpeace cafe as well as various physical activities for children and adults. Nick chatted to Bob from the charity about the activities and campaigns being showcased at the festival, and some of their most crucial work to date coming up. Find out about their latest activities and causes to support at greenpeace.org.uk
Many thanks to all the crew and performers at Latitude for another great weekend – here’s to next year! LatitudeFestival.com
