Update from Round 8 of the Hunts Kart Racing Club championship from Kimbolton

Phoenix FM-sponsored racer Lochlan Bearman entered this round having clawed back the deficit on the leaders and from trailing in 9th place in the championship he is now 3rd following his 3rd place in the East Anglian Trophy meeting last month.

In heat 1 he made up 10 places in the 8 minute race including taking 3 other karts around the outside of the first corner to finish 4th

He finished heat 2 in 3rd place and heat 3 in 2nd place with fastest lap in the process.

This put him on pole position for the final. Bearman led the field through the first corner and for the first lap. Going into turn 1 he was displaced for the lead and in the process a train of 3 karts got through. He made a move to get back up to 3rd but in doing so compromised his entry into Dan Wheldon corner where the No 68 kart of Samuel Cornwell run up the inside but slid into Bearman forcing him onto the grass.

He resumed in 9th but the leaders were already out of reach. Undeterred he got back into his rythm and got back up to 6th by the finish.

“It’s so disappointing”, said Bearman. “I had the speed all day and was confident of the win and at the very least a top 3 finish. The top 10 were all within 2 tenths of a second of each other so it is all about being in the right position at the right time and unfortunately it just didn’t happen for me today.

“But we take the good results in the heats as proof we can win.”

Bearman lost 6 points to the current leader Bryony King but moved 4 points closer to race winner and 2nd placed championship contender Samual Cornwell.

His next race is Round 7 of the Whilton Mill Championship on July 27th
