Genesis Revisited – Phoenix FM talks to Steve Hackett

Steve is best known as a guitarist for Genesis during their “classic” progressive rock era in 1971-77, very much part of the team responsible for the classic albums Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail and Wind and Wuthering.

Since leaving the band he’s had a number of solo albums and group projects, including a top ten solo album with Defector in 1980 and considerable US success with GTR, formed with Yes guitarist Steve Howe.

Last year’s Genesis Revisted II album was his most successful in nearly 30 years, reaching 24 in the UK charts as well as charting and selling very well all over Europe. Steve and his band also won the Event of the Year award at the 2013 Progressive Music Awards.

I was delighted to get some time with Steve in the delightful setting of the Heights bar in London to chat about his Genesis Revisited world tour which is enthralling old and new Genesis fans.

Steve talked about gigs on cruise ships, tribute bands and unexpected success with his new band. You can hear the interview again here:

You can keep up with Steve’s latest gig and album news at his official website – while his London show is sold out, you can still catch him at Cambridge on November 1st.
