Musical Comebacks

With the likes of Craig David hitting the charts again after 6 years away from the music industry, tonight we took a reminisce of other artists who have made musical comebacks over the years.

Craig David
carig david
Craig David is currently working on a comeback album and this month released the first single called When The Bassline Drops. It hasn’t got into the top ten yet but there is still time – he has had number one hits with Fill Me In and 7 days so you never know. His last album was Signed Sealed Delivered came out in 2010 and now 6 years later he is due to release his 6th album called Following My Intuition.

Cee Lo Green
cee lo greenBefore Cee Lo Green became a solo singer he was in a hip-hop crew called Goodie Mob in the late 90’s. He also released two albums, which didn’t do very well, before he hit the big time with his Crazy collaboration with Danger Mouse under the name Gnarls Barkly in 2006. Once again the duo wasn’t as successful so he went solo again and had a bit hit with Forget You. Since then he has done much better and even collaborated with T.I and Christina Aguilera.

Take That
Take That
Probably the biggest comeback of the list is Take That. They have had armies of screaming girl fans ever since they started out as a 5 piece in the 90’s. Fans were distraught when Robbie left in 1995 but the others carried on for another year until they decided to call it a day. However, ten years later they regrouped, without Robbie to begin with but he did pop up for a bit, then Jason left and now we have how they are today, Gary, Mark and Howard soldiering on – with still just the same amount of screaming girl fans.

Justin Timberlake
jt_press_photo_2013_-5153eb
So of course Justin Timberlake entered the music industry within a boyband Nsync, but then went his own separate way. In 2006 he made his album FutureSex/LoveSounds but then waited 7 years before making his own solo comeback with another album and that was The 20/20 Experience, which outdone the previous album by nearly 300,000 sales.

Kylie Minagoue
kylieKylie Minogue seems like a fairly recent pop Princess to people in their 20’s, but she was around singing out hits before they were even born! She was popular in the 80’s and early 90’s but in the late 90’s she wasn’t as successful. But in 2001 she released her album Fever which had the lead single Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, which became her biggest success of her career and launched her back into the pop world.

The Big Reunion
Big Reunion
There was 7 90’s bands that all had a comeback all in one go thanks to TV program The Big Reunion. There were two series of the show but  the first series included the more well known bands such as Five, 911, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, Blue, Honeyz and Liberty X.

BackStreet Boys

Backstreet BoysAnother 90’s band that regrouped didn’t need the help of a TV program and that’s BackStreet Boys.
In 2013 they released their 8th Studio album called A World Like This, 4 years after their previous album This Is Us. They also went on a world tour with their new album. It’s also been said they are working on their 9th studio album.

Daft Punk

Daft PunkFrench electronic duo Daft Punk first released their music to the world in
1997 and even though there had been a 4 year gap between the next two albums they produced, Daft Punk took a little longer to release their most recent album, Random Access Memories. This came out in 2013, 8 years after their previous. It featured the number 1 single Get Lucky featuring Pharrell Williams.

Jennifer Lopez
jennifer-lopez-on-the-floor
J-Lo’s story, or Jennifer Lopez as she now likes to be called, shows that TV can have a big impact on an artist’s music career. Starting off in the late 90’s Jennifer did well until 2007 when her album Brave was her first album not to make it into the top 10! However she then had a record label change and found herself a judge on American Idol and after that she was back in the game with her first number 1 UK hit in six years which was On The Floor featuring Pitbull.

Justin Bieber
Justin_Bieber_mugshot,_frontBieber hasn’t exactly had a comeback has he hasn’t had a massive time away from the music industry but he did go through a period of time where he was concerning more on his bad boy antics than creating songs. And it was a 3 year gap between his first album Believe which came out in 2012 and his most recent album, Purpose, which came out last year and included some singles which have stormed the charts. This album has also gained him some new Beliebers with an increase in age and gender!
