Senior Safety Day

Older residents were given valuable advice on how to stay safe at Brentwood Borough Council’s latest Senior Safety Day.

Senior Safety Day 29.10.15

The free event, on Thursday 29 October at Doddinghurst Road Community Church, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood, saw Brentwood Borough Council work alongside Safer Brentwood to raise awareness of the support available locally as well as tips on how to stay safe.

The residents received information from the 10 organisations that attended, which included: Essex Police, Crimestoppers, Essex County Fire & Rescue, Neighbourhood Watch, Trading Standards, Home Instead, and Age UK.

During the event there were discussions about internet and phone fraud; rogue traders; fire safety; and support services for older people. There was a quiz on loan sharks, a short play on fraud, ‘Scambuster’ by Solomon Theatre Company and a raffle.

Participants also received a free goody bag with information from the day, and contained purse cables, purse bells and gel hand warmers as well as an application to have a door chain fitted.

Brentwood Borough Council’s Chair of the Community and Health Committee, Councillor Will Russell, said: “Senior Safety Day was a great way to give information that older and vulnerable residents need as well as providing some practical advice on how to keep safe.

About 50 residents attended and they were able to ask the organisations questions and get some useful information.

Residents said in feedback after the event that it was very informative and that they were grateful for the event and for the advice given.”
