A swan song for a local band legend

IMG_0480On today’s show I was privileged to be joined by Lee Probert who is the lead singer/songwriter and rhythm guitarist of the Maldon based band – THE DOLL SET TONES.

The band will be releasing a new double album – SONGS FROM SONGSAKE on the 15th November – and to celebrate the launch, will be holding a launch party in Maldon at THE MILL BEACH on Goldhanger Road starting at 9pm on that day. But the event is tinged with sadness as after 9 years the band is calling it a day and packing away their guitars and drums. Over the intervening years the band, which is made up of James Bacon on drums, Ross Fifield on bass and Keith Jackson on lead guitar, has released 4 previous albums and performed around the UK with various artists like Wheatus, Feeder, The Automatic, Ghost and The Ordinary Boys.

One of the tracks off the new album ALL THESE WASTED YEARS will also be included on a special charity CD for a guy for REECE HAWLEY who has to have a drug from the USA which costs £2000 per week. You can see more details about this in the Facebook page – CD FOR REECE HAWLEY.

Anyway listen again to my chat with Lee by clicking on the link below: –

In the second hour of the show we heard about the artist who had been reported as having sold blank canvasses for “millions”. In an interview with CBC Radio in InvisiArt_BannerCanada the artist, Lana Newstrom said  “Just because you can’t see anything, doesn’t mean I didn’t put hours of work into creating a particular piece. Art is about imagination and that is what my work demands of the people interacting with it. You have to imagine a painting or sculpture is in front of you.”

“So there’s something right here?” asked one of the hosts pointing to a seemingly blank wall.

“Oh yes,” the artist responded. “That’s probably my favourite piece.”

It may been been a spoof, but I still love it!

See you tomorrow,
Scott
