Today is the 20th anniversay of 1994* and for some reason the papers and other radio stations are all agog with Britpop, which is also 20 years old according to the BBC, or 21 years old according to the BBC.

As far as BOA is concerned, Britpop never really went away, but it’s good to see band such as Dodgy, Bleech and Salad back on TV again. Coincidentally I picked three bands who’ve recently played live for Phoenix FM (if you count Cowboy Racer as Salad, which you probably can’t). So the first hour of the show was in homage to many of those bands, including Menswear, who I saw live two weeks ago (fantastic) and also had a chance to give their wonderful new single CRASH an airing. Hoewever there was no Blur, Pulp or Oasis – I regularly play Blur and Pulp so they’ll no doubt get an airing very soon, and as for Oasis, I’m not familiar with their oeuvre, so will need to assess their playworthiness another time.

We also had an album of the week in the shape of A Million Ways To Make Gold by the Voluntary Butler Scheme. A great album of quirkiness and a brilliant Pinkpantheresque album cover too.
