Now I’ll be honest with you I’m not really too keen on artificial intelligence technology.
You may remember that a couple of weeks ago we reported on a chatbot that almost went into self-destruct mode after it became confused admitting that it was itself useless and that the company for whom it had been installed were a waste of space.
And now comes news that the artificial robot, ChatGPT operated by tech firm OpenAI, recently began providing nonsensical answers to questions posed by users including material in a random mix of English and Spanish words as well as repeating the phrase “HAPPY LISTENING” with a pair of music emojis, up to 24 times midway through each reply!
OpenAI confirmed that issues had been reported and were being fixed.
Notwithstanding this statement, reports continued that the chatbot was still said to be offering daft and clearly incorrect replies.
For example, when asked for the name of the largest city on Earth beginning with the letter A, the reply suggested that the answer was Tokyo in Japan but when prompted that this was clearly wrong, the bot responded, saying “My apologies the largest city on Earth that begins with the letter A, is Beijing in China!”
Back to the drawing board perhaps!
Later in today’s show I was joined once more by Margaret Mills who’s subject this week concerned The Taylor Sisters of Colchester.
The Beverly Sisters, they are not so you could be forgiven for never having heard of them but I bet you remember the nursery rhyme “TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR”.
If you missed what Margaret told me about their connection with this favourite tune, listen again here: –
That’s me done for this week but I hope to have the pleasure of your company again next week,
Scott
