Southend United were defeated by Vanarama National League South high-flyers Hampton & Richmond Borough on penalties. A Gus Scott-Morris own-goal meant the tie went to penalties after Nathan Ralph and Jack Bridge gave the Shrimpers a two-goal lead. After Wes Fonguck’s spot kick was saved, it meant Kevin Maher’s side fell at the first hurdle.
Dagenham & Redbridge also suffered the same fate as they lost to Peterborough Sports 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Aveley had a very eventful 8-7 penalty shootout win over Hungerford Town after a 1-1 draw at Bulpit Lane.
