Lisa Whymark and Michelle Yarwood from https://www.huttonparish.com/dailybread joined me to update on this initiative that began 4 1/2 years ago follow a discussion around Lisa’s breakfast table with some fellow school mums. There are now 2,500 people on the data base, with 30-40 families ever day coming to the food Hub which runs Monday -Saturday, 10-12 at the Parish church in Claughton Hutton, CM13 1JS. This offers  free food, no questions asked, to anyone who comes. Lisa commented that she feels as they get the food for free, they should give it away for free. There is never a guarantee what will be available. Lisa said that families were coming from all over Brentwood and also Chelmsford. This led to the opening two years ago of a Saturday morning food hub at St. George’s church, Ongar Road Brentwood CM15 9HR. In Hutton the Daily Bread café runs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday – Friday. Both these food-based activities require volunteers to collect food from various shops and supermarkets, and others to prepare it for distribution at the Hub and serving in the café. Over 200 volunteers are now involved, many working on the previous evening to the opening. (More volunteers are always needed.) Food is only available on Wednesdays at the café to parents and children from the Little fishes group. The existence of the Hub and café has naturally led to the development of groups from those involved.  These include a knitters, crochet, dementia and gardening groups. A recent conversation with someone from Ukraine coming to the Hub has led a volunteer to start an English as a second language group. Lisa said that she will just wait to see what God next provides.
