The last bank holiday before Christmas!

It’s true! Can you believe it, it is indeed the final Bank Holiday of 2022 before Christmas and what’s more we’ve been graced with good weather for most of them this year. Amazing!

Anyway we’ve managed to unearth some more odd stories starting with the strange news of the girl student at a private school in Australia who insists on living her life there as a cat!

Presumably that makes her life just “purrfect”.

The report does not make it clear if she comes and goes from the school via a specially designed flap or indeed whether she’s allowed to stay out all night – doubtful I guess, or what she’s fed on. A nice bowl of Whiskers, perhaps to start her day, washed down with a saucer of milk.

The school itself has come under some criticism for allowing the student to live this way and whilst not directly responding to this,  the school said that their staff help students to deal with ‘a range of issues, from mental health, anxiety or identity issues.

Our approach is always unique to the student and we will take into account professional advice and the wellbeing of the student.”

Adolescent psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg told local press that it is actually quite rare for students to identify as animals.

“In 25 years of clinical practice I only ever came across this once,” said Dr Carr-Gregg.

“A boy temporarily identified as a dog. He used it as an escape from his reality.”

He added: “Once the stressors in his life were resolved, he reverted to being a human being.”

The incident comes after a school in the US was forced to issue a statement after parents complained about a rumour circulating that the school had provided litter boxes for students to use instead of proper toilets.

Concerned parent Lisa Hansen said she was ‘really disturbed’ after she’d learnt from a student that ‘at least one of our schools in our town, had placed a litter box in one of the unisex bathrooms, to be used by kids who identify themselves as cats’.

“I’m all for creativity and imagination, but when someone lives in a fantasy world and expects other people to go along with it, I have a problem with that,” she said.

Closer to home it appears that Southend United Football Club have found themselves in hot water after new sponsors, Estate Agents GILBERT and ROSE have given their name to the West Stand at Roots Hall stadium.

It seems that the National League side did not foresee that issues might arise from naming the stand  “Gilbert & Rose West Stand”.

The concern arises from the unfortunate link to the notorious serial killer Rose West who it will be remembered collaborated with her husband Fred West in the torture and murder of at least nine young women in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as murdering her eight-year-old stepdaughter in 1971 and is now serving a whole life term.

Oops!

Back to the drawing board, perhaps.

Enjoy the rest of your Bank Holiday and if you’re around tomorrow I hope to have your company again then,
Scott
