Becoming Michelle Obama

Delayed since last month due to my being off sick, I was delighted today to welcome back Margaret Mills for her book review.

On this occasion, Margaret has chosen an autobiography by MICHELLE OBAMA, simply titled, BECOMING MICHELLE OBAMA”.

In the book the former first lady recalls her early years growing up on the South Side of Chicago as she shares the joys of her childhood as well as some of the tough things such as the discrimination against the men in her family, about being black at Princeton, and the later the attacks on her husband’s citizenship.

She also discusses the things she chose to focus on as First Lady – children and their health, assisting military families, and developing a program for mentoring young women, whilst also seeking to  establish herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, and hoping to change the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, whilst standing firmly together with her husband.

Listen here to see how Margaret rated the book:-

If you are interested in reading this book yourself, here are the details – ‘Becoming Michelle Obama’ by Michelle Obama, (2021, Penguin) £11.00 paperback, £8.00 kindle, £12.92 audio CD.

In the first hour of today’s show we heard about the woman house purchaser who accidentally bought an entire neighbourhood!

The unnamed woman from Nevada spent $594,500 (£491,047.25) on what she believed to be one home in Sparks, North East of Reno, Nevada.

However, when she filled out her paperwork with the assessor in Washoe County, she discovered that due to a “typo”, she was now the owner of 84 further properties, as well as two common spaces.

Her new properties were estimated to be worth around $50 million (£40,865,550.00), meaning she got a lot more than what she bargained for.

The documents stated on 25 July that she owns ‘lots one through 85… and Common Areas A and B’ due to an apparent mistake in her papers made by the Westminster Title Company, ‘a full-service title company’ situated in Las Vegas.

The result is that the home buyer was handed the deeds to a large number of properties. Now I don’t know about you but I’m not so sure that I’d be too keen to simply transfer the deeds back to them but it seems that she is in fact working with the developers to hand back the ownership titles following the re-issuing of the the corrected documentation.

I look forward to having your company again tomorrow at this same time,
Scott
